Bewley's Bowtie Range

What once started as a hobby has now transformed into a cool family business. Steve Bewley from California is making great designer lamps from reused materials, scrap metal and banana leaves. His moto is “Made in America… Twice”. The bases for the lamps are usually made of car parts (brake rotors or drums) or reused lambeam compressed wood.

The best material for the stand is a heating coil. He also uses guitar strings and other junk that he can find. The amazing lampshades are made by Bewley’s mother and daughter from banana leaves. The colours used are plant-based. It is amazing what a vivid colour you can get without using chemicals.

His eco-friendly lamps are not cheap. Expect to pay anything from $300 to $800 for a complete lamp. Considering that he is making around 30 lamps per month, it is not a bad family business.
