The Surplus House
In mainstream sustainable construction, we are still dreaming about carbon neutral homes. In Germany, they’ve built an experimental house that claims to be a surplus energy house.

Ground Floor Plan
Not only it is self-sustainable, thanks to the massive photovoltaic elements on the roof, it produces an excess of 16,000kWh of electricity that is stored in high-tech batteries and then re-used to recharge the household’s electric car. With this excess energy, the electric car can cover more than
18,000 miles per year.
The eco friendly house itself has been made using the most advanced green technologies. The project is managed by the Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development of Germany and they have splashed some cash on it.

Top Floor Plan
The total value of the green equipment is around EUR2.2 million – yes, although this sort of sustainable construction is not feasible from the financial point, experiments like this are very important.
The eco friendly house has been used as a show home so far but early 2012 a family of two adults and two children will be selected to live in the house and try out the new green lifestyle.
