Transformer Furniture – Somnys for Guests

It seems that modern architects have really started warming to the idea of downsizing. Although I’m not a big fan of downsizing (got too much stuff…) there are furniture designers out there who have recognized the trend and begun working on various bold models of transformer furniture.

The idea is that transformer furniture can have several applications. For example, it can be sofa that folds away in the morning and forms a coffee table… French designer Fabien Rolland is one of those new generation cabinet makers, who like playing with transformer furniture.

He’s created this black and white thingy called Somnys. Not only it looks great, it also has several functions. A coffee table by day, it can facilitate hindsides of your guests or even stretch out and form a basic guest bed.

Somnys costs around £200, which, if you check similar offers from high street retailers or mail order catalogues (and note that their stuff in 99% cases comes from China), is not that much. For a designer item…
